Update the crypto submodule to the top of the Mbed Crypto development
branch. This brings in a version of Mbed Crypto that enables building
Mbed Crypto tests that depend on private headers, like
'psa_crypto_invasive.h'.
This also requires updating our config.h to include new configuration
options added to Mbed Crypto. MBEDTLS_PSA_ITS_FILE_C replaces
MBEDTLS_PSA_CRYPTO_STORAGE_FILE_C and MBEDTLS_PSA_CRYPTO_STORAGE_ITS_C.
MBEDTLS_PSA_INJECT_ENTROPY replaces MBEDTLS_PSA_HAS_ITS_IO.
MBEDTLS_PSA_HAS_ITS_IO is not really useful since it doesn't actually
enable anything except the entropy seed file support, which only
requires the ITS interface and not a native implemetation. Remove it.
Since the ITS API has stabilized and we don't plan to make use of more
than ITS, we don't need an abstraction layer between key storage and
key storage over ITS. Merge the ITS code into the generic storage
module.
Now that we have ITS over files, we no longer need a direct backend
for key storage over files. Remove psa_crypto_storage_file and its
tests.
Switch MBEDTLS_PSA_CRYPTO_STORAGE_ITS_C and MBEDTLS_PSA_ITS_FILE_C on
by default. This preserves functionality and test coverage in the
default configuration, but forgets any key previously stored using the
file backend.
platform.h should only be used internally by the library implementation
itself, not the examples. Remove the dependency on platform.h from all
PSA programs.
As the SSL programs, like ssl_client2 and ssl_server2, are dependent on
SSL and therefore about to be removed, the only consumer of query_config
is the query_compile_time_config test. As such, it makes sense to move
query_config to be next to what uses it.
There is some commented out X.509 certificate writing code present in
rsa_genkey. It looks like it has been commented out since the beginning
of time. Let's remove it, since commented out code is not in good style.

These examples rely on the NET module, which we want to remove. In
theory we could remove just the dependency, but we decided to remove the
whole example because:
- They showcase some bad crypto: custom, undocumented protocol (not
obviously broken though, apart from authenticating only one side);
hard-coded limit of 512-bit size for the DH modulus (2048 is the
recommended minimum these days); direct use of the shared secret as a
key (instead of applying a KDF); encryption with ECB, custom
parameters and the client not having the ability to verify them.
- The programs use the DH API in the same way that TLS does, so they
have limited demonstration value.
- The programs only show finite-field DH, which is not used all that
much these days. What people want to see is mostly ECDH.

Additional work done as part of merge:
- Run ./tests/scripts/check-generated-files.sh and check in the
resulting changes to programs/ssl/query_config.c
So far, `ssl_client2` printed the CRT info for the peer's CRT
by requesting the latter through `mbedtls_ssl_get_peer_cert()`
at the end of the handshake, and printing it via
`mbedtls_x509_crt_info()`. When `MBEDTLS_SSL_KEEP_PEER_CERTIFICATE`
is disabled, this does no longer work because the peer's CRT
isn't stored beyond the handshake.
This makes some tests in `ssl-opt.sh` fail which rely on the CRT
info output for the peer certificate.
This commit modifies `ssl_client2` to extract the peer CRT info
from the verification callback, which is always called at a time
when the peer's CRT is available. This way, the peer's CRT info
is still printed if `MBEDTLS_SSL_KEEP_PEER_CERTIFICATE` is disabled.

- Run ./tests/scripts/check-generated-files.sh and check in the
resulting changes to programs/ssl/query_config.c
This commit improves hygiene and formatting of macro definitions

When `MBEDTLS_PLATFORM_C` is not enabled, our PSA Crypto implementation
depends on the standard C library for functions like snprintf() and

files nor redefining all `mbedtls_*` symbols properly to ensure
successful builds without MBEDTLS_PLATFORM_C. Add the necessary header
files and macro definitions to our PSA Crypto implementation.

psa_status_t is currently a signed type where only non-negative values
are used, which makes things a bit awkward. For now, non-negative
values trigger an error. This code will need to be revised if we
switch to using negative values as error codes.
Remove the type and bits arguments to psa_allocate_key() and
psa_create_key(). They can be useful if the implementation wants to
know exactly how much space to allocate for the slot, but many
implementations (including ours) don't care, and it's possible to work
around their lack by deferring size-dependent actions to the time when
the key material is created. They are a burden to applications and
make the API more complex, and the benefits aren't worth it.
Change the API and adapt the implementation, the units test and the
sample code accordingly.
Add new initializers for key policies and use them in our docs, example
programs, tests, and library code. Prefer using the macro initializers
due to their straightforwardness.
Some parts of the library, and crypto drivers, need to see key types,
algorithms, policies, etc. but not API functions. Move portable
integral types and macros to build and analyze values of these types
to a separate headers crypto_types.h and crypto_values.h.
No functional changes, code was only moved from crypto.h to the new headers.
GCC 4.8 warns that some variables may be used without having been
initialized. They aren't, but determining that takes nontrivial
analysis, so initialize them at the point of definition.
The previous prototype gave warnings are the strings produced by #cond and
__FILE__ are const, so we shouldn't implicitly cast them to non-const.
While at it modifying most example programs:
- include the header that has the function declaration, so that the definition
can be checked to match by the compiler
- fix whitespace
- make it work even if PLATFORM_C is not defined:
- CHECK_PARAMS is not documented as depending on PLATFORM_C and there is
no reason why it should
- so, remove the corresponding #if defined in each program...
- and add missing #defines for mbedtls_exit when needed
The result has been tested (make all test with -Werror) with the following
configurations:
- full with CHECK_PARAMS with PLATFORM_C
- full with CHECK_PARAMS without PLATFORM_C
- full without CHECK_PARAMS without PLATFORM_C
- full without CHECK_PARAMS with PLATFORM_C
Additionally, it has been manually tested that adding
mbedtls_aes_init( NULL );
near the normal call to mbedtls_aes_init() in programs/aes/aescrypt2.c has the
expected effect when running the program.
The sample programs require an additional handler function of
mbedtls_param_failed() to handle any failed parameter validation checks enabled
by the MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS config.h option.
Some sample programs access structure fields directly. Making these work is
desirable in the long term, but these are not essential for the core
functionality in non-legacy mode.
Programs and tests need to be able to use PSA header files when
USE_CRYPTO_SUBMODULE and MBEDTLS_USE_PSA_CRYPTO are set. Add the crypto
submodule include folder, which contains psa headers, after the main
include folder so that psa headers can be found and crypto submodule
headers don't take precedence over mbedtls headers.
Otherwise, if `mbedtls_psa_get_free_key_slot()` fails to find a fresh
key slot, the slot value will be undefined, and the call to
`psa_destroy_key()` at the end of `main()` is undefined behavior.
Previously, command line arguments `psk_slot` and `psk_list_slot`
could be used to indicate the PSA key slots that the example
applications should use to store the PSK(s) provided.
This commit changes this approach to use the utility function
`mbedtls_psa_get_free_key_slot()` to obtain free key slots from
the PSA Crypto implementation automatically, so that users only
need to pass boolean flags `psk_opaque` and `psk_list_opaque`
on the command line to enable / disable PSA-based opaque PSKs.
This commit adds command line parameters `psk_slot` and `psk_list_slot`
to the example application `programs/ssl/ssl_server2`. These have the
following semantics:
- `psk_slot`: The same semantics as for the `ssl_client2` example
application. That is, if a PSK is configured through the use
of the command line parameters `psk` and `psk_identity`, then
`psk_slot=X` can be used to import the PSK into PSA key slot X
and registering it statically with the SSL configuration through
the new API call mbedtls_ssl_conf_hs_opaque().
- `psk_list_slot`: In addition to the static PSK registered in the
the SSL configuration, servers can register a callback for picking
the PSK corresponding to the PSK identity that the client chose.
The `ssl_server2` example application uses such a callback to select
the PSK from a list of PSKs + Identities provided through the
command line parameter `psk_list`, and to register the selected
PSK via `mbedtls_ssl_set_hs_psk()`. In this case, the new parameter
`psk_list_slot=X` has the effect of registering all PSKs provided in
in `psk_list` as PSA keys in the key slots starting from slot `X`,
and having the PSK selection callback register the chosen PSK
through the new API function `mbedtls_ssl_set_hs_psk_opaque()`.
This commit adds support for the use of PSA-based opaque PSKs
in the TLS client example application programs/ssl/ssl_client2.
Specifically, a numerical command line option `psk_slot` with
the following constraints and semantics is added:
- It can only be used alongside the provisioning of a raw PSK
through the preexisting `psk` command line option.
- It can only be used if both TLS 1.2 and a PSK-only ciphersuite
are enforced through the appropriate use of the `min_version`
and `force_ciphersuite` command line options.
- If the previous conditions are met, setting `psk_slot=d` will
result in the PSA key slot with identifier `d` being populated
with the raw PSK data specified through the `psk` parameter
and passed to Mbed TLS via `mbedtls_ssl_conf_psk_opaque()`
prior to the handshake.
Enforcing the TLS version and ciphersuite is necessary to determine
the exact KDF algorithm the PSK will be used for. This is required
as it is currently not possible to set up a key without specifying
exactly one algorithm the key may be used with.
Otherwise, if `mbedtls_psa_get_free_key_slot()` fails to find a fresh
key slot, the slot value will be undefined, and the call to
`psa_destroy_key()` at the end of `main()` is undefined behavior.

This commit replaces multiple `memset()` calls in the example
programs aes/aescrypt2.c and aes/crypt_and_hash.c by calls to
the reliable zeroization function `mbedtls_zeroize()`.
While not a security issue because the code is in the example
programs, it's bad practice and should be fixed.
When using a primality testing function the tolerable error rate depends
on the scheme in question, the required security strength and wether it
is used for key generation or parameter validation. To support all use
cases we need more flexibility than what the old API provides.
If `MBEDTLS_MEMORY_BUFFER_ALLOC_C` is configured and Mbed TLS'
custom buffer allocator is used for calloc() and free(), the
read buffer used by the server example application is allocated
from the buffer allocator, but freed after the buffer allocator
has been destroyed. If memory backtracing is enabled, this leaves
a memory leak in the backtracing structure allocated for the buffer,
as found by valgrind.

OFB and CFB are streaming modes. XTS is a not a cipher mode but it
doesn't use a separate padding step. This leaves only CBC as a block
cipher mode that needs a padding step.
Since CBC is the only mode that uses a separate padding step, and is
likely to remain the only mode in the future, encode the padding mode
directly in the algorithm constant, rather than building up an
algorithm value from a chaining mode and a padding mode. This greatly
simplifies the interface as well as some parts of the implementation.
Print the symbolic name corresponding to a numerical value.
Supported types: status values, algorithms, elliptic curves,
key types, key usage masks.
The program is partly generated from parsing psa/crypto.h with a few
hard-coded assumptions. This isn't ideal but it works and requires
little machinery.

Previously, the UDP proxy could only remember one delayed message
for future transmission; if two messages were delayed in succession,
without another one being normally forwarded in between,
the message that got delayed first would be dropped.
This commit enhances the UDP proxy to allow to delay an arbitrary
(compile-time fixed) number of messages in succession.
This setting belongs to the individual connection, not to a configuration
shared by many connections. (If a default value is desired, that can be handled
by the application code that calls mbedtls_ssl_set_mtu().)
There are at least two ways in which this matters:
- per-connection settings can be adjusted if MTU estimates become available
during the lifetime of the connection
- it is at least conceivable that a server might recognize restricted clients
based on range of IPs and immediately set a lower MTU for them. This is much
easier to do with a per-connection setting than by maintaining multiple
near-duplicated ssl_config objects that differ only by the MTU setting.

sprintf( (char *) buf, "%s\r\n", base );
Above code generates Wformat-overflow warning since both buf and base
are of same size. buf should be sizeof( base ) + characters added in
the format. In this case format 2 bytes for "\r\n".
When MBEDTLS_MEMORY_BUFFER_ALLOC_C was defined, the sample ssl_server2.c was
using its own memory buffer for memory allocated by the library. The memory
used wasn't obvious, so this adds a macro for the memory buffer allocated to
make the allocated memory size more obvious and hence easier to configure.
Newer features in the library have increased the overall RAM usage of the
library, when all features are enabled. ssl_server2.c, with all features enabled
was running out of memory for the ssl-opt.sh test 'Authentication: client
max_int chain, server required'.
This commit increases the memory buffer allocation for ssl_server2.c to allow
the test to work with all features enabled.
Functions time with TIME_AND_TSC() didn't have their return values checked.
I'm not sure whether Coverity complained about existing uses, but it did about
new ones, since we consistently check their return values everywhere but here,
which it rightfully finds suspicious.
So, let's check return values. This probably adds a few cycles to existing
loop overhead, but on my machine (x86_64) the added overhead is less than the
random-looking variation between various runs, so it's acceptable.
Some calls had their own particular error checking; remove that in favour of
the new general solution.

In ssl_server2, the private key objects are normally local variables
of the main function. However this does not hold for private keys in
the SNI configuration. When async callbacks are used, the test code
transfers the ownership of the private keys to the async callbacks.
Therefore the test code must free the SNI private keys through the
async callbacks (but it must not free the straight private keys this
way since they are not even heap-allocated).
When testing async callbacks with SNI, make all the keys async, not
just the first one. Otherwise the test is fragile with respect to
whether a key is used directly or through the async callbacks.
In the current test code, the object that is used as a public key in
the certificate also contains a private key. However this is because
of the way the stest code is built and does not demonstrate the API in
a useful way. Use mbedtls_pk_check_pair, which is not what real-world
code would do (since the private key would typically be in an external
cryptoprocessor) but is a more representative placeholder.

AES-XEX is a building block for other cryptographic standards and not yet a
standard in and of itself. We'll just provide the standardized AES-XTS
algorithm, and not AES-XEX. The AES-XTS algorithm and interface provided
can be used to perform the AES-XEX algorithm when the length of the input
is a multiple of the AES block size.
XTS mode is fully known as "xor-encrypt-xor with ciphertext-stealing".
This is the generalization of the XEX mode.
This implementation is limited to an 8-bits (1 byte) boundary, which
doesn't seem to be what was thought considering some test vectors [1].
This commit comes with tests, extracted from [1], and benchmarks.
Although, benchmarks aren't really nice here, as they work with a buffer
of a multiple of 16 bytes, which isn't a challenge for XTS compared to
XEX.

It's undesirable to have users of the SSL layer check for an error code

also because if we later make another crypto module gain resume capabilities,

This module used (len, pointer) while (pointer, len) is more common in the
rest of the library, in particular it's what's used in the CMAC API that is
very comparable to Poly1305, so switch to (pointer, len) for consistency.
While the old name is explicit and aligned with the RFC, it's also very long,
so with the mbedtls_ prefix prepended we get a 31-char prefix to each
identifier, which quickly conflicts with our 80-column policy.
The new name is shorter, it's what a lot of people use when speaking about
that construction anyway, and hopefully should not introduce confusion at
it seems unlikely that variants other than 20/1305 be standardised in the
foreseeable future.

Changes the IP address to bind to for dtls_server.c to be "::" or optionally

Also changes the destinaton IP address for dtls_client.c to be "::1" or if

This change allows on compilation dtls_server.c and dtls_client.c to both be
compiled to use either IPv4 or IPv6 so out of the box they will work together
without problem, and to avoid dtls_server.c binding to IPv6 and dtls_client.c
binding to IPv4.

Rename to mbedtls_ssl_get_async_operation_data and
mbedtls_ssl_set_async_operation_data so that they're about
"async operation data" and not about some not-obvious "data".
The certificate passed to async callbacks may not be the one set by
mbedtls_ssl_conf_own_cert. For example, when using an SNI callback,
it's whatever the callback is using. Document this, and add a test
case (and code sample) with SNI.
Testing the case where the resume callback returns an error at the
beginning and the case where it returns an error at the end is
redundant. Keep the test after the output has been produced, to
validate that the product does not use even a valid output if the
return value is an error code.
Document how the SSL async sign callback must treat its md_alg and
hash parameters when doing an RSA signature: sign-the-hash if md_alg
is nonzero (TLS 1.2), and sign-the-digestinfo if md_alg is zero
(TLS <= 1.1).
In ssl_server2, don't use md_alg=MBEDTLS_MD_NONE to indicate that
ssl_async_resume must perform an encryption, because md_alg is also
MBEDTLS_MD_NONE in TLS <= 1.1. Add a test case to exercise this
case (signature with MBEDTLS_MD_NONE).
When a handshake step starts an asynchronous operation, the
application needs to know which SSL connection the operation is for,
so that when the operation completes, the application can wake that
connection up. Therefore the async start callbacks need to take the
SSL context as an argument. It isn't enough to let them set a cookie
in the SSL connection, the application needs to be able to find the
right SSL connection later.
Also pass the SSL context to the other callbacks for consistency. Add
a new field to the handshake that the application can use to store a
per-connection context. This new field replaces the former
context (operation_ctx) that was created by the start function and
passed to the resume function.
Add a boolean flag to the handshake structure to track whether an
asynchronous operation is in progress. This is more robust than
relying on the application to set a non-null application context.

with the addition of the idle() call.
* main, if `opt.transport == MBEDTLS_SSL_TRANSPORT_STREAM`: take the

Add test cases for SSL asynchronous signature to ssl-opt.sh:
* Delay=0,1 to test the sequences of calls to f_async_resume
* Test fallback when the async callbacks don't support that key
* Test error injection at each stage
* Test renegotiation
New options in ssl_server2 to use the asynchronous private key
operation feature.
Features: resume delay to call resume more than once; error injection
at each stage; renegotiation support.
The idea is to use the simple program that is expected to be modified
rarely to set a breakpoint in a specific line and check that the
function mbedtls_zeroize() does actually set the buffer to 0 and is not
optimised out by the compiler.
Also, introduce MBEDTLS_EINTR locally in net_sockets.c
for the platform-dependent return code macro used by
the `select` call to indicate that the poll was interrupted
by a signal handler: On Unix, the corresponding macro is EINTR,
while on Windows, it's WSAEINTR.
Previously, the idling loop in ssl_server2 didn't check whether
the underlying call to mbedtls_net_poll signalled that the socket
became invalid. This had the consequence that during idling, the
server couldn't be terminated through a SIGTERM, as the corresponding
handler would only close the sockets and expect the remainder of
the program to shutdown gracefully as a consequence of this.
This was subsequently attempted to be fixed through a change
in ssl-opt.sh by terminating the server through a KILL signal,
which however lead to other problems when the latter was run
under valgrind.
This commit changes the idling loop in ssl_server2 and ssl_client2
to obey the return code of mbedtls_net_poll and gracefully shutdown
if an error occurs, e.g. because the socket was closed.
As a consequence, the server termination via a KILL signal in
ssl-opt.sh is no longer necessary, with the previous `kill; wait`
pattern being sufficient. The commit reverts the corresponding
change.
Initializing arrays using non-constant expressions is not permitted in
C89, and was causing errors when compiling with Metrowerks CodeWarrior
(for classic MacOS) in C89 mode. Clang also produces a warning when
compiling with '-Wc99-extensions':
test/benchmark.c:670:42: warning: initializer for aggregate is not a compile-time constant [-Wc99-extensions]
const unsigned char *dhm_P[] = { dhm_P_2048, dhm_P_3072 };

const unsigned char *dhm_G[] = { dhm_G_2048, dhm_G_3072 };
^~~~~~~~~~
Declaring the arrays as 'static' makes them constant expressions.
fixes#1353
The race goes this way:
1. ssl_recv() succeeds (ie no signal received yet)
2. processing the message leads to aborting handshake with ret != 0
3. reset ret if we were signaled
4. print error if ret is still non-zero
5. go back to net_accept() which can be interrupted by a signal
We print the error message only if the signal is received between steps 3 and
5, not when it arrives between steps 1 and 3.
This can cause failures in ssl-opt.sh where we check for the presence of "Last
error was..." in the server's output: if we perform step 2, the client will be
notified and exit, then ssl-opt.sh will send SIGTERM to the server, but if it
didn't get a chance to run and pass step 3 in the meantime, we're in trouble.
The purpose of step 3 was to avoid spurious "Last error" messages in the
output so that ssl-opt.sh can check for a successful run by the absence of
that message. However, it is enough to suppress that message when the last
error we get is the one we expect from being interrupted by a signal - doing
more could hide real errors.
Also, improve the messages printed when interrupted to make it easier to
distinguish the two cases - this could be used in a testing script wanted to
check that the server doesn't see the client as disconnecting unexpectedly.
The _ext suffix suggests "new arguments", but the new functions have
the same arguments. Use _ret instead, to convey that the difference is
that the new functions return a value.
Conflict resolution:
* ChangeLog: put the new entries in their rightful place.
* library/x509write_crt.c: the change in development was whitespace
only, so use the one from the iotssl-1251 feature branch.
1) `mbedtls_rsa_import_raw` used an uninitialized return
value when it was called without any input parameters.
While not sensible, this is allowed and should be a
succeeding no-op.
2) The MPI test for prime generation missed a return value
check for a call to `mbedtls_mpi_shift_r`. This is neither
critical nor new but should be fixed.
3) Both the RSA keygeneration example program and the
RSA test suites contained code initializing an RSA context
after a potentially failing call to CTR DRBG initialization,
leaving the corresponding RSA context free call in the
cleanup section of the respective function orphaned.
While this defect existed before, Coverity picked up on
it again because of newly introduced MPI's that were
also wrongly initialized only after the call to CTR DRBG
init. The commit fixes both the old and the new issue
by moving the initializtion of both the RSA context and
all MPI's prior to the first potentially failing call.

MSVC rightfully complained that there was some conversion from `size_t`
to `unsigned int` that could come with a loss of data. This commit
re-types the corresponding struct field `ctx_buffer::len` to `size_t`.
Also, the function `ctx_buffer_append` has an integer return value
which is supposed to be the (positive) length of the appended data
on success, and a check is inserted that the data to be appended does
not exceed MAX_INT in length.
Don't mangle arguments containing spaces and other special characters,
pass them unchanged to the proxy or server as applicable.
More robust parsing of server parameters: don't hit on partial words;
use ssl_server2's default values.
Minor style improvements.
The UDP proxy corrupts application data at the end of the datagram. If
there are multiple DTLS records within the same datagram, this leads
to the wrong message being corrupted. This commit always corrupts the
beginning of the message to prevent this.
Overall, the UDP proxy needs reworking if it is supposed to reliably
support multiple records within a single datagram, because it
determines its actions from the type of the first record in the
current datagram only.
This commit provides the new option pack=TIME for the udp proxy
./programs/test/udp_proxy. If used, udp packets with the same
destination will be queued and concatenated for up to TIME
milliseconds before being delivered.
This is useful to test how mbed TLS's deals with multiple DTLS records
within a single datagram.
This commit introduces the script `programs/test/udp_proxy_wrapper.sh` which can
be used to wrap the SSL server binary `programs/ssl/ssl_server2` by the UDP
proxy application `programs/test/udp_proxy` while maintaining the same
interface from the command line.
Specifically, given UDP proxy arguments ARGS_UDP and SSL server arguments
ARGS_SSL, the command line
> ./udp_proxy_wrapper.sh ARGS_UDP -- ARGS_SSL
behaves like
> ./ssl_server2 ARGS_SSL
wrapped by
> ./udp_proxy ARGS_UDP
The motivation and benefit of this is that scripts like `ssl-opt.sh` can be used
with the server command line `P_SRV` modified to `./udp_proxy_wrapper.sh
ARGS_UDP -- DEFAULT_ARGS_SSL` which will result in all tests being executed for
an SSL server behind a UDP proxy.

This commit adds four tests to tests/ssl-opt.sh:
(1) & (2): Check behaviour of optional/required verification when the
trusted CA chain is empty.
(3) & (4): Check behaviour of optional/required verification when the
client receives a server certificate with an unsupported curve.
In the TLS test client, allow SHA-1 as a signature hash algorithm.
Without this, the renegotation tests failed.
A previous commit had allowed SHA-1 via the certificate profile but
that only applied before the initial negotiation which includes the
signature_algorithms extension.
SHA-1 is now disabled by default in the X.509 layer. Explicitly enable
it in our tests for now. Updating all the test data to SHA-256 should
be done over time.
Adding the CA suppression list option to the 'ssl_server2' sample
program is a prerequisite for adding tests for this feature to the
integration test suite (ssl-opt.sh).
In the ecdsa.c sample application we don't use hashing, we use ecdsa
directly on a buffer containing plain text. Although the text explains
that it should be the message hash it still can be confusing.
Any misunderstandings here are potentially very dangerous, because ECDSA
truncates the message hash if necessary and this can lead to trivial
signature forgeries if the API is misused and the message is passed
directly to the function without hashing.
This commit adds a hash computation step to the ecdsa.c sample
application and clarification to the doxygen documentation of the
ECDSA functions involved.
The sample application programs/ssl/ssl_server2.c was previously
modifies to use inttypes.h to parse a string to a 64-bit integer.
However, MSVC does not support C99, so compilation fails. This
patch modifies the sample app to use the MSVC specific parsing
functions instead of inttypes.h.

Add a test to ssl-opt.sh to ensure that in DTLS a 6 byte record counter
is compared in ssl_check_ctr_renegotiate() instead of a 8 byte one as in
the TLS case. Because currently there are no testing facilities to check
that renegotiation routines are triggered after X number of input/output
messages, the test consists on setting a renegotiation period that
cannot be represented in 6 bytes, but whose least-significant byte is 2.
If the library behaves correctly, the renegotiation routines will be
executed after two exchanged.

Instead of polling the hardware entropy source a single time and
comparing the output with itself, the source is polled at least twice
and make sure that the separate outputs are different.
The self test is a quick way to check at startup whether the entropy
sources are functioning correctly. The self test only polls 8 bytes
from the default entropy source and performs the following checks:
- The bytes are not all 0x00 or 0xFF.
- The hardware does not return an error when polled.
- The entropy does not provide data in a patter. Only check pattern
at byte, word and long word sizes.

This commit fixes the `Destination buffer is too small` error returned
by `mbedtls_cert_write` command when the values of `subject_name` or
`issuer_name` parameters exceed 128 characters.
I have increased the size of these varaibles from 128 to 256 characters,
but I don't know if it's the best way to solve this issue...
Fixes#315.
- interrupt the connection abruptly (no close_notify)
- reconnect from the same port while server sill has an active connection from
this port.
Some real-world clients do that, see section 4.2.8 of RFC 6347.
This is not very useful for TLS as mbedtls_ssl_write() will automatically
fragment and return the length used, and the application should check for that
anyway, but this is useful for DTLS where mbedtls_ssl_write() returns an
error, and the application needs to be able to query the maximum length
instead of just guessing.
