With the change to the full config, there were no longer any tests
that exercise invalid-parameter behavior. The test suite exercises
invalid-parameter behavior by calling TEST_INVALID_PARAM and friends,
relying on the test suite's mbedtls_check_param function. This
function is only enabled if MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS is defined but not
MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS_ASSERT.
Add a component to all.sh that enables MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS but
disables MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS_ASSERT and doesn't define
MBEDTLS_PARAM_FAILED. This way, the xxx_invalid_param() tests do run.
Since sample programs don't provide a mbedtls_check_param function,
this component doesn't build the sample programs.

Due to the way the current PK API works, it may have not been clear
for the library clients, how big output buffers they should pass
to the signing functions. Depending on the key type they depend on
MPI or EC specific compile-time constants.
Inside the library, there were places, where it was assumed that
the MPI size will always be enough, even for ECDSA signatures.
However, for very small sizes of the MBEDTLS_MPI_MAX_SIZE and
sufficiently large key, the EC signature could exceed the MPI size
and cause a stack overflow.
This test establishes both conditions -- small MPI size and the use
of a long ECDSA key -- and attempts to sign an arbitrary file.
This can cause a stack overvlow if the signature buffers are not
big enough, therefore the test is performed for an ASan build.
For unit tests and sample programs, CFLAGS=-m32 is enough to get a
32-bit build, because these programs are all compiled directly
from *.c to the executable in one shot. But with makefile rules that
first build object files and then link them, LDFLAGS=-m32 is also
needed.

MBEDTLS_SSL_SOME_MODES_USE_MAC, mbedtls_ssl_derive_keys() and
build_transforms() will attempt to use a non-existent `encrypt_then_mac`
field in the ssl_transform.

Sometimes, when building the shared target with crypto submodule, one could
get an "No rule to make target '../crypto/library/libmbedcrypto.so'" error.
This is due to two reasons - building in parallel and (probably) an
incomplete/incorrect list of dependencies for certain targets. The proposed
solution is to disable parallel builds with crypto submodule for now.

An issue has been raised here: https://github.com/ARMmbed/mbedtls/issues/2634
Previously it was disabled as too experimental, which no longer holds. Also,
this option introduces new APIs, so it's not only about an internal
alternative (as the comment in config.pl used to state) - people who request a
full config should get all of the available APIs.
Adapt all.sh: now all builds with full config will also test this option, and
builds with the default config will test without it. Just to be sure, let's
have a build with full config minus this option.
Update documentation of MBEDTLS_USE_PSA_CRYPTO to reflect the status of the
new APIs it enables in Mbed TLS and why they're still opt-in.
Also enable it in scripts/config.pl full, as well as two storage options that
were only blacklisted from full config because they depended on
MBEDTLS_PSA_CRYPTO_C.
Adapt tests in all.sh:
- tests with submodule enabled (default) no longer need to enable it
explicitly, and no longer need runtime tests, as those are now handled by
all other test cases in this script
- tests with submodule disabled (old default) now need to disable it
explicitly, and execute some runtime tests, as those are no longer tested
anywhere else in this script
Adapt documentation in Readme: remove the section "building with submodule"
and replace it with a new section before the other building sections.
Purposefully don't document how to build not from the submodule, as that
option is going away soon.
Resolve merge conflicts by performing the following actions:
- Reject changes to deleted files.
- Reject changes to generate_errors.pl and generate_visualc_files.pl.
Don't add an 'include-crypto' option which would attempt to use the
non-existent crypto submodule.
- list-identifiers.sh had the `--internal` option added to it, which
lists identifiers only in internal headers. Add PSA-specific internal
headers to list-identifiers.sh.

Additional work done as part of merge:
- Run ./tests/scripts/check-generated-files.sh and check in the
resulting changes to programs/ssl/query_config.c
Make check-python-files.sh run pylint on all *.py files (in
directories where they are known to be present), rather than list
files explicitly.
Fix a bug whereby the return status of check-python-files.sh was only
based on the last file passing, i.e. errors in other files were
effectively ignored.
Make check-python-files.sh run pylint unconditionally. Since pylint3
is not critical, make all.sh to skip running check-python-files.sh if
pylint3 is not available.
Resolve conflicts by performing the following.
- Take the upstream Mbed TLS ChangeLog verbatim.
- Reject changes to Makefiles and CMake that are related to using Mbed
Crypto as a submodule. It doesn't make sense to use Mbed Crypto as a
submodule of itself.
- Reject README changes, as Mbed Crypto has its own, different README.
- Reject PSA-related changes to config.h. We don't want to disable the
availability of the PSA Crypto API by default in the Mbed Crypto
config.h.
- Don't inadvertently revert dead code removal in
mbedtls_cipher_write_tag() which was added in f2a7529403 ("Fix
double return statement in cipher.c")
- Where Mbed Crypto already had some MBEDTLS_USE_PSA_CRYPTO code (from
past companion PRs) take the latest version from Mbed TLS which
includes integration with MBEDTLS_CHECK_PARAMS.
- Update the version of the shared library files to match what's
currently present in Mbed TLS.
- Reject removal of testing with PSA from config full tests.
- Resolve conflicts in test tests/suites/helpers.function, where both
Mbed Crypto and Mbed TLS both added documentation for TEST_ASSERT.
Combine text from both documentation efforts.
- Reject adding a submodule of ourselves.
- Reject addition of submodule tests in all.sh.
- Reject addition of submodule to library path in
tests/scripts/run-test-suites.pl.
- Avoid using USE_CRYPTO_SUBMODULE=1 in
component_test_use_psa_crypto_full_cmake_asan() in all.sh.
When using PSA with MBEDTLS_ENTROPY_NV_SEED, some test suites
require the seed file for PSA initialization, which was normally generated
later, when entropy tests were run. This change creates an initial seedfile
in all.sh.
Set the CMake-observed variable `CTEST_OUTPUT_ON_FAILURE`, so that when
a "make test" run by CMake fails, verbose test output about the detail
of failure is available.
When all.sh invokes check_headers_in_cpp, a backup config.h exists. This
causes a stray difference vs cpp_dummy_build.cpp. Fix by only collecting
the *.h files in include/mbedtls.

Wildcard patterns now work with command line COMPONENT arguments
without --except as well as with. You can now run e.g.
`all.sh "check_*` to run all the sanity checks.
After backing up and restoring config.h, `git diff-files` may report
it as potentially-changed because it isn't sure whether the index is
up to date. Use `git diff` instead: it actually reads the file.
Only look for armcc if component_build_armcc is to be executed,

You can still pass --no-armcc, but it's no longer required when

Build the list of components to run in $RUN_COMPONENTS as part of
command line parsing. After parsing the command line, it no longer
matters how this list was built.
Extract the list of available components by looking for definitions of

all components in run_all_components, which opened the risk of
forgetting to list a component there.
Add a conditional execution facility: if a function support_xxx exists

Don't bail out of all.sh if the OS isn't Linux. We only expect
everything to pass on a recent Linux x86_64, but it's useful to call
all.sh to run some components on any platform.
In all.sh, always run both MemorySanitizer and Valgrind. Valgrind is
slower than ASan and MSan but finds some things that they don't.
Run MSan unconditionally, not just on Linux/x86_64. MSan is supported
on some other OSes and CPUs these days.
Use `all.sh --except test_memsan` if you want to omit MSan because it
isn't supported on your platform. Use `all.sh --except test_memcheck`
if you want to omit Valgrind because it's too slow.

The goal is to neither get an error about disable-randomization not
being supported (e.g. on FreeBSD), nor get an error if it is supported
but fails (e.g. on Ubuntu).
Only fiddle with disable-randomization from all.sh, which cares
because it reports the failure of ASLR disabling as an error. If a
developer invokes the Gdb script manually, a warning about ASLR
doesn't matter.
Use `cmake -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Asan` rather than manually setting
`-fsanitize=address`. This lets cmake determine the necessary compiler
and linker flags.
With UNSAFE_BUILD on, force -Wno-error. This is necessary to build

Merge the work on all.sh that was done on mbedtls-2.14.0 with the
changes from mbedtls-2.14.0 to the current tip of mbed-crypto/development.
There is a merge conflict in test/scripts/all.sh, which is the only
file that was modified in the all.sh work branch. I resolved it by
taking the copy from the all.sh branch and applying the changes
between mbedtls-2.14.0 and mbedtls-2.16.0. As evidenced by
`git diff mbedtls-2.14.0 d668baebc5e1709f4118aba3802d9af0ee4e4d83`,
many of the commits in
`git log mbedtls-2.14.0 d668baebc5e1709f4118aba3802d9af0ee4e4d83`
cancelled each other or were redundant with parallel commits that had
also occured via another branch included in mbedtls-2.14.0, leaving
the following differences:
* Removal of one unimportant blank line.
* The changes from db2b8db715
"psa: Add storage implementation for files", to turn off
PSA storage when MBEDTLS_FS_IO is turned off, which I manually
replayed.
Merge the work on all.sh that was done on mbedtls-2.14.0 with the

There is a merge conflict in test/scripts/all.sh, which is the only
file that was modified in the all.sh work branch. I resolved it by
taking the copy from the all.sh branch and applying the changes
between mbedtls-2.14.0 and mbedtls-2.16.0. These changes consisted of
two commits:
* "Add tests to all.sh for CHECK_PARAMS edge cases": adds two
test components which are reproduced here as
test_check_params_without_platform and component_test_check_params_silent.
* "tests: Backup config.h before modifying it": moot because the
component framework introduced in the all.sh branch backs up config.h
systematically.
In all.sh, always save config.h before running a component, instead of
doing it manually in each component that requires it (except when we
forget, which has happened). This would break a script that requires
config.h.bak not to exist, but we don't have any of those.

Call cleanup from run_component instead of calling it from each
individual component function.
Clean up after each component rather than before. With the new
structure it makes more sense for each component to leave the place
clean. Run cleanup once at the beginning to start from a clean slate.
Move almost all the code of this script into functions. There is no
intended behavior change. The goal of this commit is to make
subsequent improvements easier to follow.
A very large number of lines have been reintended. To see what's going
on, ignore whitespace differences (e.g. diff -w).
I followed the following rules:
* Minimize the amount of code that gets moved.
* Don't change anything to what gets executed or displayed.
* Almost all the code must end up in a function.
* One function does one thing. For most of the code, that's from one
"cleanup" to the next.
* The test sequence functions (run_XXX) are independent.
The change mostly amounts to putting chunks of code into a function
and calling the functions in order. A few test runs are conditional;
in those cases the conditional is around the function call.
It's good to make a backup of config.h before modifying it, so that when
"cleanup" runs the next test has a clean default config.h to start from.
Fixes 840af0a9ae ("Add tests to all.sh for CHECK_PARAMS edge cases")
Add a test to ensure that when the crypto submodule is not used, the crypto
library is not created and that libmbedcrypto.a does not contain symbols
from files contained within the crypto submodule.
- Check that libmbedcrypto was not built at the top level.
- Check that we've built libmbedcrypto with the correct files. Build
libmbedcrypto with debug symbols and verify that files used are from the
crypto submodule.
- Check that config.h is handled properly. Enable a feature at the top
level that the crypto library submodule has disabled in its config.h, and
check that the library symboles indicate that the feature is present in
libmbedcrypto.
- Ensure basic functionality of the resulting build with a run of
`make test` and `ssl-opt.sh`.
all.sh's cleanup function would not entirely remove CMakeFiles due to a
missing -o in its fine command. Add a -o after prune, so that the find for
CMakeFiles can succeed.
Add new functions, psa_load_persistent_key(),
psa_free_persistent_key_data(), and psa_save_persistent_key(), for
managing persistent keys. These functions load to or save from our
internal representation of key slots. Serialization is a concern of the
storage backend implementation and doesn't abstraction-leak into the
lifetime management code.
An initial implementation for files is provided. Additional storage
backends can implement this interface for other storage types.

This commit adds two builds to all.sh which use a value of
MBEDTLS_SSL_DTLS_MAX_BUFFERING that allows to run the
reordering tests in ssl-opt.sh introduced in the last commit.
Added an additional i386 test to all.sh, to allow one test with -O0 which
compiles out inline assembly, and one to test with -01 which includes the inline
assembly.
The i386 test builds were only building the default configuration and had
no address sanitisation. This commit expands the test configuration to the full
configuration in all.sh and builds with ASan for when the test suites are
executed.
When calling all.sh from a script and using "--keep-going", errors were
sometimes missed due to all.sh always returning 0 "success" return code.
Return 1 if there is any failure encountered during a "keep-going" run.
This is disabled by default since it requires OpenSSL >= 1.1.0 and the current
default version on the CI is 1.0.2. However, the CI also has 1.1.1-rc which
can be used for this.

This patch uses grep to search the GDB output for errors as there is
a bug in the tool that causes it to return 0 to the system even though
there was a problem in the script.
This patch also fixes the zeroize test to work with the --keep-going
option in all.sh.

Motivation is similar to NO_UDBL_DIVISION.
The alternative implementation of 64-bit mult is straightforward and aims at
obvious correctness. Also, visual examination of the generate assembly show
that it's quite efficient with clang, armcc5 and arm-clang. However current
GCC generates fairly inefficient code for it.
I tried to rework the code in order to make GCC generate more efficient code.
Unfortunately the only way to do that is to get rid of 64-bit add and handle
the carry manually, but this causes other compilers to generate less efficient
code with branches, which is not acceptable from a side-channel point of view.
So let's keep the obvious code that works for most compilers and hope future
versions of GCC learn to manage registers in a sensible way in that context.

Conflict resolution:
* ChangeLog: put the new entry from my branch in the proper place.
* include/mbedtls/error.h: counted high-level module error codes again.
* include/mbedtls/ssl.h: picked different numeric codes for the
concurrently added errors; made the new error a full sentence per
current standards.
* library/error.c: ran scripts/generate_errors.pl.
* library/ssl_srv.c:
* ssl_prepare_server_key_exchange "DHE key exchanges": the conflict
was due to style corrections in development
(4cb1f4d49c) which I merged with
my refactoring.
* ssl_prepare_server_key_exchange "For key exchanges involving the
server signing", first case, variable declarations: merged line
by line:
* dig_signed_len: added in async
* signature_len: removed in async
* hashlen: type changed to size_t in development
* hash: size changed to MBEDTLS_MD_MAX_SIZE in async
* ret: added in async
* ssl_prepare_server_key_exchange "For key exchanges involving the
server signing", first cae comment: the conflict was due to style
corrections in development (4cb1f4d49c)
which I merged with my comment changes made as part of refactoring
the function.
* ssl_prepare_server_key_exchange "Compute the hash to be signed" if
`md_alg != MBEDTLS_MD_NONE`: conflict between
ebd652fe2d
"ssl_write_server_key_exchange: calculate hashlen explicitly" and
46f5a3e9b4 "Check return codes from
MD in ssl code". I took the code from commit
ca1d742904 made on top of development
which makes mbedtls_ssl_get_key_exchange_md_ssl_tls return the
hash length.
* programs/ssl/ssl_server2.c: multiple conflicts between the introduction
of MBEDTLS_ERR_SSL_ASYNC_IN_PROGRESS and new auxiliary functions and
definitions for async support, and the introduction of idle().
* definitions before main: concurrent additions, kept both.
* main, just after `handshake:`: in the loop around
mbedtls_ssl_handshake(), merge the addition of support for
MBEDTLS_ERR_SSL_ASYNC_IN_PROGRESS and SSL_ASYNC_INJECT_ERROR_CANCEL
with the addition of the idle() call.
* main, if `opt.transport == MBEDTLS_SSL_TRANSPORT_STREAM`: take the
code from development and add a check for
MBEDTLS_ERR_SSL_ASYNC_IN_PROGRESS.
* main, loop around mbedtls_ssl_read() in the datagram case:
take the code from development and add a check for
MBEDTLS_ERR_SSL_ASYNC_IN_PROGRESS; revert to a do...while loop.
* main, loop around mbedtls_ssl_write() in the datagram case:
take the code from development and add a check for
MBEDTLS_ERR_SSL_ASYNC_IN_PROGRESS; revert to a do...while loop.
The gdb script loads the programs/test/zeroize program and feeds it as
imput its own source code. Then sets a breakpoint just before the last
program's return code and checks that every element in memory was
zeroized. Otherwise it signals a failure and terminates.
The test was added to all.sh.
Conflict resolution:
* ChangeLog
* tests/data_files/Makefile: concurrent additions, order irrelevant
* tests/data_files/test-ca.opensslconf: concurrent additions, order irrelevant
* tests/scripts/all.sh: one comment change conflicted with a code
addition. In addition some of the additions in the
iotssl-1381-x509-verify-refactor-restricted branch need support for
keep-going mode, this will be added in a subsequent commit.
Only delete things that we expect to find, to avoid deleting other
things that people might have lying around in their build tree.
Explicitly skip .git to avoid e.g. accidentally matching a branch
name.
All options can now be overridden by a subsequent option, e.g.
"all.sh --foo --no-foo" is equivalent to "all.sh --no-foo". This
allows making wrapper scripts with default options and occasionally
overriding those options when running the wrapper script.

Build with MBEDTLS_DEPRECATED_REMOVED and MBEDTLS_DEPRECATED_WARNING
separately.
Do these builds with `-O -Werror -Wall -Wextra` to catch a maximum of
issues while we're at it. Do one with gcc and one with clang for
variety. This caught an uninitialized variable warning in cmac.c that
builds without -O didn't catch.
Build with MBEDTLS_HAVE_INT32 and MBEDTLS_HAVE_INT64 on all
architectures, not just x86_64. These two modes should work on all
platforms (except embedded environments where 64-bit division is not
available).
Also run the unit tests.
Correct the description: this is not "N-bit compilation", but "N-bit
bignum limbs".
- Adapt the change in all.sh to the new keep-going mode
- Restore alphabetical order of configuration flags for
alternative implementations in config.h and rebuild
library/version_features.c
Compilation and test for the `MBEDTLS_RSA_NO_CRT` option were
previously guarded by a check for 64-bit systems, for which there
is no reason. This commit moves both outside of the guard.
Add --keep-going mode to all.sh. In this mode, if a test fails, keep
running the subsequent tests. If a build fails, skip any tests of this
build and move on to the next tests. Errors in infrastructure, such as
git or cmake runs, remain fatal. Print an error summary at the end of
the run, and return a nonzero code if there was any failure.
In known terminal types, use color to highlight errors.
On a fatal signal, interrupt the run and report the errors so far.
This commit adds a build with default config except
MBEDTLS_SSL_MAX_FRAGMENT_LENGTH to all.sh, as well as a run of the MFL-related
tests in ssl-opt.sh.
With cmake, CFLAGS has to be set when invoking cmake, not make (which totally
ignores the value of CFLAGS when it runs and only keeps the one from cmake).
Also, in that case the flags were either redundant (-Werror etc) or wrong
(-std=c99 -pedantic) as some parts of the library will not build with
-pedantic (see the other -pedantic tests, which are correct, for what needs to
be disabled).
The test for MBEDTLS_NO_UDBL_DIVISION wasn't preserving it's own config.h
for the next test.
Also added comments to ARM Compiler 6 tests to better explain them.

Pull Request #533 - Use MAKEFLAGS to pass args to make in all.sh
Modify the script at tests/scripts/all.sh to export the variable
MAKEFLAGS with -j if it was not set before. This should decrease the
total runtime of tests/scripts/all.sh by letting make run multiple jobs
in parallel. Also, add a check at the top of the script to cause a
failure if the environment is not Linux.w
Tighten up the test options in all.sh, test-ref-configs.pl and curves.pl
to ensure the builds are strict for all warnings, warnings are treated
as errors, and that wherever possible builds are strict to the C99
standard. (Note that builds that use the Unix sockets API cannot be).
The library/net.c and its corresponding include/mbedtls/net.h file are
renamed to library/net_sockets.c and include/mbedtls/net_sockets.h
respectively. This is to avoid naming collisions in projects which also
have files with the common name 'net'.

In the test script tests/scripts/all.sh the armcc build is a baremetal build
and doesn't use MBEDTLS_HAVE_TIME therefore the test configuration
MBEDTLS_PLATFORM_TIME_ALT which is dependent on it must be unset.
The test script tests/scripts/all.sh exits on first error, although it also
attempted to redirect error output from armcc and then output it after armcc
had completed. This never occurred because as soon as armcc failed the script
would end and the redirected output wouldn't be displayed.
This change removes that redirection.

- correcting typos and copyright year
* Update references to output_env.sh
MBEDTLS_ENTROPY_NV_SEED is dependent on platform code unless an
alternative implementation is provided, therefore needs to be disabled
in the disabled filesystem IO build.
On my machine, that reduces running time from about 30 minutes to less than 10
minutes, while maintaining a good probability of catching the most likely
issues in practice.
armar doesn't understand the syntax without dash. OTOH, the syntax with dash
is the only one specified by POSIX, and it's accepted by GNU ar, BSD ar (as
bundled with OS X) and armar, so it looks like the most portable syntax.
fixes#386
Due to the recent change about entropy sources strength, it is no longer
acceptable to just disable the platform source. So, instead "fix" it so that
it is clear to MemSan that memory is initialized.
I tried __attribute__((no_sanitize_memory)) and MemSan's blacklist file, but
couldn't seem to get them to work.
